High above, a pale moon shines, almost omnipotently, in the perpetual night sky, but never casts any light on the city streets. The moon, known by many as the Kingdom Hearts, is final home to those hearts that have become lost. Hearts of the good, hearts of the bad... weak hearts, strong hearts. Light and darkness.
And below it... a city of shadow, teeming with Heartless on a never-ending search to destroy that which is good. Their dark bodies eclipse the ground. There is no light here.
At the far end of the city, there is a huge towering castle, bright as daylight against the backdrop of the cityscape. Its walls cast an eerie glow over the abandoned city buildings, deterring any Heartless that dare to come near it. An impenetrable white fortress in a city of darkness.
But there is no light here, either.
I feel as though this place has become... imbalanced, somehow. In a realm that should be neither light nor dark, why is there so much darkness here...?
Any place that is not overrun by Heartless is occupied by Nobodies who want nothing more than to take that which does not belong to them. Many of them are obsessed with their quest to regain hearts, and their ambition has made them susceptible to darkness. They are no different than the Heartless they claim to despise.
In some cases, they're even worse.
Their greed and ambition have taken on new heights, I have learned... How highly they must think themselves to believe that they can overthrow gods! Ha! I know, for I have seen for myself, that they are not gods. Only fools. Fools that stand upon the high pedestal that they have built for themselves, wholly convinced of their own superiority, fueled only by their selfishness, only to wonder why they are outcasts and thought of as monsters.
I may not have a heart, myself, but I know that one does not need a heart to able to see the difference between light and dark, good and evil. I know what greed looks like; I have looked upon the face of my own heart long enough to see it. And even that creature, that... thing cannot begin to compare to the overwhelming greed that I have seen here.
It is repulsive, and I will have no part of it anymore. I'd damn myself to a life of non-existence before even thinking about going back to that.
Greed is what brought me here, but it shall not be what keeps me.
